What does it mean to live a high vibration life? How can we ensure more good vibes as we move forward in midlife and beyond? I’ve been asking myself that a lot these days as I change the way I approach my life.

At the beginning of the year, I decided to join two separate groups to take me through the year.

The first is a mastermind, designed to help me grow my business. It’s classic ME, a business group that helps with leads and accountability as I find new clients and build a solid base.

The other is different than anything I’ve ever experienced before.

I’d been reading a magazine for months. At the end of the year, the publisher made a special offer to bring several women on board, to learn, grow, and reach our higher potential.

Something resonated with me. I “felt” it. I “got” what she said, how she promoted it.

It “spoke” to me.

I had to say YES!

Understanding what a high vibration life really is

Maybe I’ve been cooped up in the rain and cold for too long. Maybe a few nice days in the 70s, followed by 30s and snow (SNOW? In April?) made me a little melancholy for summertime. But I’ve been channeling the Beach Boys a lot lately.

I-I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
I’m pickin’ up good vibrations
She’s giving me the excitations

“Good Vibes” or “High Vibrational Living” are phrases you see everywhere. But have you ever stopped to think about what that means?

Vibe is short for vibration. And without getting too science-y, everything you see or touch is made from energy, and has a vibrational quality. This is Quantum Physics in our modern times. And yes, if you ever watched The Secret, this should all be rushing back to you right now.

We tend to accept the things we know have energy sources, and, thus, are vibrational. Put your hand on a speaker, and you can feel the vibration coming through.

But it works for people too.

Ever walked into a room and known something was “off?” You could feel you weren’t in a good place. You found the quickest way to escape, knowing you weren’t where you belonged.

The same happens when you meet a person and instantly hit it off. You can see it when you look at them. You feel it before you’ve spoken any words. And every step you take only strengthens that bond. That might be how you found your spouse or partner, or even your best friend. You “felt” it.

In short, that’s all there is to it. Though it takes a lifetime (and beyond) to fully understand it.

Bring on the high vibration life!

We can “feel” energy of everything around us.

Where we fail is actually “reading” the energy and making decisions around it.

Ever stayed in a toxic situation, even though you knew it going in?

The idea of living a high vibration life is centered around the concept of choosing what vibes you surround yourself with. You can choose to vibrate higher, or remain in your current state.

Once you’re in tune with this way of thinking, you can start to pull in positive vibes, and choose to vibrate at a higher level than your current state. The better you get at this, the more you can avoid situations that bring you down, and focus more on experiences that make you feel better, lighter, happy, and full of love.

And even when you do find yourself in lower energy, you know what it takes to shift your experience, and move back to a more positive place.

You accept the negative, and know what it takes to move to the positive.

Sounds great, right? Then why don’t more of us do this?

Awareness is key

There’s a good chance if you’re reading this, you’re on your way to living a higher vibrational life. Why? Because awareness is key.

To get more in touch with your place in the world, you have to make a conscious decision to do the work to put yourself in a positive light.

You can do that by:

Being conscious of your environment

This moves past the concept of shutting off the news, but that’s a part of it. It’s about creating an environment all around you in which you choose to live each day.

Are you in a toxic environment? How can you step away? It might mean re-evaluating relationships, geographical locations, career choices, even personal hobbies. This is about Feng Shui’ing your life.

If something doesn’t sit well with you, it’s holding you back. It’s not allowing you to vibrate at your highest level. The more you step into your emotions, the better you’ll feel. This is your time to explore, and LISTEN to what is going on around you.

Head out to nature

I could not have survived these past two years without my daily river walks. I get my 10,000 steps in each day walking next to the river, seeing eagles soar, watching osprey fish, laughing at sealions tossing fish into the air, and talking with my friends.

We are physical beings, not meant for sitting behind desks, or lying on a couch all day. We’re meant to absorb the sunshine, breathe in the clean air, and surround ourselves with the wonder of nature.

Want to feel it even more? Head out barefoot, and ground into this place we call home. Even a walk will dissipate low frequencies. The more you play outside, the more you’ll find your natural vibrations rising.

Be mindful of your words

How do you talk about others? How do you talk about yourself? We often treat ourselves much worse than we’d ever say out loud to a friend.

No matter if you think it or say it out loud, it has the opportunity to hold you down. Negative energy makes you pull inside yourself, makes you question everything, and can lead to a less than healthy life.

Try this experiment. When you wake up each morning, say out loud: “Today is going to be a breathtaking, stupendous day!” Sing it. Smile while you say it. Repeat it in the mirror.

Most of us wake up with an alarm clock, dragging ourselves out of bed.

But when you spring out, improving your thoughts from the moment you rise, you’ll find a lot more “good vibes” coming your way.

Love yourself

Okay, I’m just going to say it. We all need more self-love. This cancel culture thing has got to stop. We’re ripping society apart at the seams. It’s a vicious circle that causes a lot of us self-harm.

Yes, it’s back to self-talk again. If you tell yourself things you’d never say to a friend, you reduce your vibrations exponentially.

Self-love isn’t something you do overnight. Self-care isn’t something you achieve with a bubble bath or an occasional walk in the park.

This means digging in and doing the work to raise your vibrations, so you step aside the negatives of the world. They can’t touch you because you’ve done the work. Let go of the resentment, hatred, anger, manipulation – I could keep saying the words, because we’ve all had/felt them a lot over the last two years.

Learn new things

A part of the new group I joined at the beginning of the year is attending monthly talks where we learn and do the work. We hold each other accountable for big changes.

We talked about high vibrational lifestyles yesterday. We’re starting a weekly project next week to redesign our personal style.

I can’t wait.

We all deserve to live a life with good vibes surrounding us all the time. Nourishing ourselves with beauty, style, color, music, stirred by emotions. Relishing the experience of being alive.
